SAMPLE FAIRTRADE FOODS FOR FREE IN THE MALL, ASHLEY ON MARCH 8th
Fairtrade has improved the lives of millions of people in developing countries, paying people a fair wage for their work producing products we use every day. This year, Fairtrade Fortnight (running from the 25th February to the 9th March) will promote Fairtrade goods – showing people that buying Fairtrade products can make a positive difference.
The Epsom & Ewell Fairtrade Forum will be holding tasting stands through The Mall Ashley, Epsom, from 10am to 2pm on Saturday 8th March, offering people the chance to taste and sample food & drink available from shops in the Mall. For the past three years, the Forum have held tasting stands outdoors during Fairtrade Fortnight. This year, with the generous help of the Mall, they’ll be showing people how easy it is to switch to Fairtrade, with a wide range of tasty products from Marks & Spencer’s, Waitrose & Starbucks.
The tasting stands are part of the local campaign to declare Epsom a Fairtrade Town, a campaign that has recently seen Epsom & Ewell Borough Council passing a motion supporting Fairtrade. This motion means that Fairtrade refreshments are served at the Town Hall and in all committee meetings, thanks to the joint efforts of the Residents’ Association and the Liberal Democrats
Says Anne Kamm, on behalf of Epsom & Ewell Fairtrade Forum, “we’re really excited to have this opportunity to show people that it’s easy to choose Fairtrade, that the products are delicious, easy to buy, and make a huge difference to the lives of millions, all right in the middle of Epsom’s shopping centre.”
